The variety is distinguished by its ornamental coloured foliage and unusual fruit appearance. Depending on fruit maturity, sunlight, regional temperature and cultivation conditions, the fruit skin may range from reddish-green and burgundy to deep maroon or dark purple.

Inside, the fruit develops attractive pink-red to deep-red flesh. The pulp is juicy and aromatic, with a pleasant sweet flavour and a texture that may remain crisp near the outer flesh while becoming softer and more tender toward full maturity.

The coloured young foliage, distinctive fruit skin and red flesh also give the plant excellent ornamental and collector value.
