Celgen® LSU Purple Fig is a premium common-type fig variety developed through the Louisiana State University breeding programme in the USA. It is valued for its attractive glossy reddish-purple to dark-purple fruits, pleasantly sweet flavour, productive growth and naturally closed fruit eye.

The fruits are generally medium-sized with an elongated to long-turbinate shape. At full maturity, the skin develops a rich reddish-purple to deep-purple colour, while the interior may range from light amber to strawberry-pink. The pulp becomes soft, juicy and pleasantly sweet when fully ripe.

LSU Purple has a naturally closed fruit eye. This varietal characteristic may help reduce the entry of excess moisture and insects compared with more open-eyed fig varieties.
