Palmer Navel  Orange Tree

The Palmer Navel Orange is a type of sweet orange that is seedless and boasts a rich, juicy flavor, perfect for eating fresh. The fruit is large, round-oval in shape, and has a deep orange color. It peels easily, revealing tender flesh with a rich and pleasant flavor. Recognized globally as a premium eating orange, the Palmer Navel also has excellent storage ability.

Position: Plant your orange tree in a spot that enjoys full sun and is adequately protected from the wind. To allow it to grow unhindered, plant your trees 4.5 to 6.5 meters apart from one another.

Size: A healthy orange tree will typically reach a height and canopy spread of about 9 meters. However, these oranges can also be grown in a pot of at least 55 liters. Orange trees do not like their roots to be disturbed, so avoid planting other trees, bushes, or flowers too close to them.

Soil Type: Orange trees need healthy, well-drained soil. Add compost to the hole when planting to nourish the roots. If you’re planting in a pot, use high-quality potting soil and ensure the pot has drainage.

Mulch: These trees thrive with mulch, which protects the roots and retains moisture. Leave a gap between the stem or trunk of the tree and the mulch to avoid potential trunk disease.

Watering: Orange trees need to be watered regularly, with potted trees requiring even more attention. Generally, your orange tree should receive 2.5 to 4 centimeters of water per week.

Fertilizing: Give your orange trees the best chance by fertilizing them well. Apply 1 teaspoon of our slow-release bio fertilizers every 4-5 months. Even though it is called berry fertilizer, it is suitable for all plants and trees.

Pruning: Your orange tree will only need to be pruned to remove dead or diseased limbs or those too close to the ground (around 30 centimeters or less).

Pest and Disease Management: Watch out for pests like aphids, scale insects, and mites. Remove any bubbly leaves and dispose of them immediately. We recommend using Effective Microorganisms (EM) to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. Hose the tree first to remove aphids, then spray well with EM Control. As the tree matures, it will become healthier, and pests will be less of an issue.

Harvesting: Palmer Navel Orange Trees can be harvested from spring to summer and usually continue to bear fruit for decades. The oranges should be fairly easy to pluck from the tree with a gentle twist from the branch.
